200 Comcast Employees to Assist Food Bank of South Jersey on Comcast Cares Day

Pennsauken, NJ, April 24, 2015 –(PR.com)– Nearly 200 Comcast employees are expected to donate time and talents to the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) on Comcast Cares Day. They will execute multiple projects on behalf of the non-profit organization, including prepping a vegetable garden at FBSJ’s headquarters; assembling more than one thousand bags of food to be delivered to children and seniors through FBSJ’s direct service programs; and assisting in FBSJ’s “marketplace” – sorting and organizing donated food and loading food/supplies into the commercial vehicles of agencies that are part of FBSJ’s pantry distribution network.

Why
Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast NBCUniversal’s companywide celebration of their year-round commitment to service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. This year, 95,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers are expected to participate in more than 700 projects across the country and around the globe.

Highlight: Comcast employees will prep FBSJ’s on-site garden for 2015 – weeding beds, refreshing soil, and planting a mix of vegetables and herb. Fresh produce harvested will be used in recipes prepared in FBSJ’s demonstration kitchen, as part of its Healthy Living Initiative program. Start-up expenses for the garden will be covered through donations from Comcast employees.
