APT Index: June Retail Sales Increase [+0.8%], Though Heavy Rain Storms Appear to Affect Sales on the East Coast

Applied Predictive Technologies (APT) announced today that the APT Index of in-store retail sales increased by just [+0.8%] nationwide in June 2015 compared to June of last year. The increase was driven by an increase in transaction size [+2.6%], while transaction count decreased [-1.8%]. Many areas on the East Coast appeared to experience the impacts of large storms during the month.
Patrick O’Reilly, APT President & COO, said, “We’ve continued to see retail transactions decrease over the last couple of months. Interestingly, however, our data confirms that online transactions continue to grow. In the last three months, we’ve seen online transactions for apparel increase more than 9%.”

The APT Index aggregates data from sales registers at over 100,000 stores and restaurants across the U.S. to show how year-over-year sales performance changes. Unlike other sources, the APT Index is based on actual sales data, allowing APT to make statistically significant observations about retail and restaurant sales. As a result, we believe the APT Index provides the most definitive, accurate, and geographically-targeted analysis of retail and restaurant sales available.
