Betting Update; Charlton v Liverpool with the bookmakers making Liverpool their 8/13 favourites

Dec. 15, 2006 – It was however only 2 weeks ago when The Reds gained their first away win in the league beating Wigan 4-0, with their overall record on the road looking like this – P8 W1 D2 L5.

Still on Liverpool the other points to note are they have only found the net 5 times in those away games, with four of them coming in that Wigan game. You could argue that they have turned this poor run around with that 4-0 win, but put into the mix the fact that Charlton got four points off them last season then you’d want bigger than 8/13 in my book.

Charlton come here in real trouble. They have already seen one manager leave this campaign and the jury is still very much out on current boss Les Reed. Addicks’ fans will also not have liked their long serving old leader Alan Curbishley going to London rivals West Ham this week, and they will know that another defeat here and they could start to become detached in the relegation zone.

A word of encouragement however for Charlton is their home form – P8 W3 D2 L3, which in the scheme of things is not bad reading. The reason they are in so much trouble is because of their away games, where they have only picked up one point so far.

So looking back at Charlton’s recent home results you might be surprised to know that they are unbeaten in five and have in fact won three of those matches 1-0. A speculative bet at around 12/1 will tempt some people for a repeat 1-0 win, while with both teams respective form taken into account then for me the draw at around 14/5 looks cracking value.

In the scoring markets always check Liverpool’s team news, but if Bellamy lines up then he is worth a look having scored four times against Charlton in his last seven games. While for Charlton look no further than Darren Bent. His days could be numbered in a Charlton shirt with the transfer window opening in January and although he’s not scored in their last five games still looks their best chance of a goal. Bellamy – 13/8 anytime Bent – 23/10 anytime.
