New Elements Gallery Spotlights Four Paintings by Jason Craighead

Dec. 19, 2006 – December 2006 (WILMINGTON, NC) – Four paintings by Raleigh-based abstract expressionist Jason Craighead are featured in the 22nd annual Holiday Show at New Elements Gallery in Wilmington, which will be on display through January 6, 2007.

Jason Craighead is considered one of the leading abstract expressionists in the Southeast. He describes his work as a “purely intuitive process as I’m acting and responding to what appears on the canvas. Each step leads to another. There’s an on-going dialogue – or argument – between my work and me. It’s very improvisational, and my focus is always on the process itself.”

The four paintings in the New Elements show continue his affinity for layering acrylic paint, pencil, pastel, and graphite to create spontaneous abstract compositions, with a base layer of long drips providing depth and direction.

Jason Craighead is represented by New Elements, Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, Broadhurst Gallery in Pinehurst, and the Anne Irwin Fine Art Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.

New Elements was founded in 1985 as destination in Wilmington for regional fine art and craft. This year’s holiday show includes work in a variety of media that includes oils, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, jewelry, glass, and sculpture by over 30 gallery artists.

New Elements is located in historic downtown Wilmington at 216 North Front Street. For more information, visit
