Falls Church, VA, May 06, 2015 –(PR.com)– Dr. Ralph G. Perrino was the guest speaker at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Department of Sociology Annual Scholarship and Honor Society Luncheon on April 24, 2015. The event was held in the Virginia Dare Room on the campus of UNC-G. The luncheon was sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Alpha Kappa Delta, the Sociology Honor Society. Graduate and undergraduate students were recognized for meritorious work in the field of sociology. Awards and scholarships were presented during the luncheon. Undergraduate and graduate faculty was also in attendance.
Dr. Perrino’s talk, “A Life of Success, Failure, and Sociology” focused on Dr. Perrino’s many years of community involvement through the application of what he termed “active, practicing, public sociology.” Dr. Perrino encouraged students to persevere in the pursuit of their academic and professional goals and to become involved in their communities in a real and meaningful way to demonstrate the importance of the sociological perspective in civic affairs.
Dr. Perrino also encouraged the student audience to embrace the skills that will be critical to compete in the global marketplace, including critical thinking and problem solving; collaboration across networks; agility and adaptability; initiative and entrepreneurialism; effective oral and written communication skills; accessing and analyzing information; and curiosity and imagination. These skills, Dr. Perrino pointed out, are essential for a life of professional and personal success.
Following Dr. Perrino’s presentation, a spirited question and answer period ensued during which students inquired further into Dr. Perrino’s remarks.
