The Gateway Family YMCA – Rahway Branch announces swim team dates.
Rahway, NJ, August 12, 2015 –(PR.com)– The Gateway Family YMCA has announced upcoming try-outs for the 2015-2016 Rapids swim team, scheduled for August 25th and 26th at The Gateway Family YMCA – Rahway Branch, 1564 Irving Street, Rahway, NJ. “After a very successful 2014-2015 competitive season, the team is looking to grow even more. Our diverse team currently encompasses 62 swimmers from towns in both Eastern Union and Northern Middlesex counties,” stated Jaimie Hinshelwood, Aquatic Director, The Gateway Family YMCA – Rahway Branch.
Tryouts for the upcoming season will be held at 6:00PM on the dates below:
Ages 8 & Under: August 25, 2015
25 yards Freestyle and 25 yards backstroke
9/10 year olds: August 25, 2015
50 yards Freestyle and 50 yards backstroke
11/12 year olds: August 26, 2015
100 yard Freestyle and 100 IM (25 yards of each stroke)
Ages 13 & Over: August 26, 2015
100 yards of Freestyle and 200 IM (50 yards of each stroke)

The competitive swim season runs from September through March; with dual meets starting in October and Championship meets starting in February. The Rapids swim team competes against other YMCA’s in the Northern New Jersey Swim League. Swim meets are held on Saturdays at The Gateway Family YMCA – Rahway Branch or at the site of the competing YMCA. “This year we are happy to announce that we will be adding additional swim meets to enhance our swimmers’ development,” added Rodger Koerber, Rahway Branch Executive Director.
The Rahway Branch will be holding a Summer Stroke Clinic from August 3rd through August 19th, 2015 that focuses on stroke techniques, endurance, starts and turns, and other essential skills. The clinic will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00- 8:00PM. “The Summer Stroke Clinic is a great way to get your swimmer ready for the upcoming season,” stated Mike Tonzola, Rahway Branch Associate Executive Director.
As a leading nonprofit committed to youth development, the Y has been a leader in providing swim lessons and water safety. The Gateway Family YMCA continues to help youth and adults experience the joy and benefits of swimming, so they can be healthy, confident and secure in the water. There are a variety of programs to choose, including swim lessons for all ages, starting with parent/child lessons through adult, water exercise, family swim, and competitive swimming. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate, financial assistance is available to those in need to help cover costs.
