Durango, CO, August 17, 2015 –(PR.com)– As part of Santa Fe Indian Market Week 2015, Toh-Atin Gallery announces a two-part lecture series, free and open to the public, on the art of Navajo weaving and contemporary Native American jewelry.
On Tuesday, August 18th and Thursday, August 21st, Jackson Clark, owner of Toh-Atin Gallery, will be giving his talk, “Threads Through Time, a History of the Navajo People and the Art of Weaving,” at 2 p.m. in the Zuni Room at the Inn at Loretto. This will be followed by a 3 p.m. lecture and discussion on turquoise and contemporary Native American jewelry with Gene Waddell of the Waddell Trading Company in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Clark says that he is excited for another Indian Market Week. “This event has grown every year, and I am honored to be included in a lecture series with Gene,” added Clark. “Nothing tells the story of the Navajo people better than the art of weaving. I love having this opportunity for an open dialogue because I always learn something new, too. I am looking forward to a fun week.”
Both events require no prior reservations and are part of Santa Fe Indian Market Week, which is sponsored by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts. Clark has been the owner of Toh-Atin Gallery for over 40 years and is a recognized expert in Native American art and Navajo weaving. Waddell has served as a consultant to the Smithsonian Museum for American Indian culture and art.
Starting on August 17th through August 23rd, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., there will be a selection of Navajo weaving, Pueblo pottery, vintage Native American painting, and contemporary Indian jewelry. On Thursday, August 20th, there will be an Indian Market Open House hosted by Toh-Atin Gallery from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
