Most project management professionals say out of the box thinking and sheer determination matter most.
Farmington Hills, MI, May 09, 2015 –(PR.com)– While NCAA college basketball was having its own March Madness, Vertabase decided to hold its own March Madness with its first project management poll. The leading project management software company asked: “What scores big in a team leader to rally the team to a championship finish?”
The poll, conducted on Facebook, Twitter, and the Vertabase e-newsletter and blog during the weeks of March Madness, reached 13,000 individuals who work in some capacity in project management.
“March Madness afforded us the opportunity to show how project management applies to all teams, no matter the type of workplace. It was the perfect time to gauge the key factors that people consider necessary in a team leader in order to achieve project management success,” notes Mark Phillips, PMP, Principal at Vertabase.
The poll asked participants to choose from one of three responses: (1) Sticking to proven practices; (2) Out of the box thinking; and (3) Sheer determination. The poll results were just as close and exciting as some of the NCAA tournament games. Out of the box thinking and sheer determination ended in a virtual tie.
“Our March Madness Project Management poll is indicative of the diverse project management cultures in workplaces, as well as the extent to which project management is being practiced,” says Phillips. “The results are not surprising. They show that workers recognize that a team leader must be creative in his or her thinking and be confident and determined to stay the course, no matter the obstacles.”
While project management software and other tools, such as Vertabase 5.6, can help in streamlining and tracking tasks, the Vertabase project management poll demonstrates that employees believe the ultimate success to a project stems from the project manager’s ability to be open to change, be innovative and creative, accept increased risk, be forward thinking, and have a vision of success regardless of the problems being faced.
Vertabase is planning to conduct project management polls on a regular basis to obtain and share the opinions of those who work in project management. “The ultimate goal is to uncover best practices so companies, project management team leaders, and those working and advancing in the project management field can learn from this sharing of ideas and better the success of their projects,” says Phillips.
