York Region’s First Local Job Search Engine Announces Major Expansion

Nov. 28, 2006 – Fairy Lake Jobs (http://www.fairylakejobs.net) – the specialized job search engine focused on serving the York Region communities of Ontario, Canada (just north of Toronto) – announced a major expansion of its services today. By integrating into its search results job postings from various new sources, Fairy Lake Jobs has expanded the number of jobs to which it currently provides access to about 4,000, up from some 1,000 prior to the expansion. In addition, new advanced search capabilities and job browsing options were introduced, making it easier for visitors to search for jobs in specific parts of York Region or ones posted within a selected date range.

“The positive feedback that we received after launching Fairy Lake Jobs has been overwhelming”, says Strac Ivanov from IT-Challenger Consulting Group, the Newmarket-based search technologies integrator that built Fairy Lake Jobs, “The number of applicants and employers using Fairy Lake Jobs has grown fast. Most of the enhancements that we are introducing actually originated as suggestions from our visitors.”

The success of Fairy Lake Jobs is not surprising. With its diverse, well educated, and fast growing population and strong business community, York Region is one of the economic strongholds of Ontario. It is the Canadian home of many large national employers, including IBM Canada (in Markham), Magna (in Aurora), AMD (in Markham), and State Farm (in Aurora). As a local job search engine focused on meeting the specific needs of York Region, Fairy Lake Jobs complements large national employment web sites: By indexing job postings published by various sources, it provides a single point of access to local job openings published on a number of national and corporate web sites. Fairy Lake Jobs helps local job seekers explore job opportunities available in their home communities before deciding to relocate or spend hours commuting every day. It also gives local employers an incentive to recruit in the community, by offering them a way to announce job postings for free.

The success of Fairy Lake Jobs has prompted IT-Challenger Consulting Group to consider launching similar web sites in other communities. However, the company plans to maintain the strong community focus of Fairy Lake Jobs and expand its services only by adding more information valuable to local businesses and applicants, instead of including job postings from other geographic regions.
